Hi! I’m Karen the MSW intern for Foster Family Assist. I have raised three daughters and now have 4 grandchildren. I understand the fears of parenting and the power of love. Both the fear and love are enmeshed on a moment to moment roller coaster.

Since returning to school, I have felt challenged, vulnerable and intrigued. My path to fostering started with my undergrad internship. The moment I meet my first foster family is the moment I recognized my own experience of parenting, my new understanding of trauma, and the value of building relationships would help carry me on this journey with Foster Family Assist.

My goal in writing each blog is to share our stories that align with our mission. I also want to build relationships with you! Ask questions, tell me what your thoughts, concerns, and experiences are. As a community, how can we do better for our foster families?
